    World Cup 2026 host cities

During the bidding process, 41 cities with 43 existing, fully operational venues with regular tenants (except Montreal) and 2 venues under construction submitted bids (3 venues in 3 cities in Mexico; 9 venues in 7 cities in Canada; 38 venues in 34 cities in the United States).

A first-round elimination cut nine venues and nine cities. A second-round elimination cut another nine venues in six cities, while three venues in three cities (Chicago, Minneapolis, and Vancouver) dropped out due to FIFA's unwillingness to discuss financial details.

After Montreal withdrew in July 2021 due to lack of provincial funding and support to renovate the Olympic Stadium, Vancouver rejoined the bid as a candidate city in April 2022, bringing the total number to 24 venues, each in its own city or metropolitan area.

On June 16, 2022, FIFA announced the sixteen host cities (2 in Canada, 3 in Mexico, 11 in the United States): Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Monterrey, Mexico City, Toronto, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Miami.

Mexico City is the only capital of the three host nations chosen as a venue, with Ottawa and Washington, D.C., joining Bonn (West Germany, 1974) and Tokyo (Japan, 2002) as the only capital cities not selected to host World Cup matches.

Number of Matches per Host City

The table below shows how many matches each city will host. Dallas (9) has been assigned the highest number of matches, while Monterrey and Guadalajara (4) will host the fewest.

Three regions for geographical grouping of the competitions

Host cities were grouped geographically to optimize travel for teams and fans, except for Canada and its opening-game opponent in Toronto. Four of the 12 groups were allocated to the Central region with 24 matches, three groups to the Western region, and the rest to the Eastern region, including a shared-region group with Canada.

Cities were divided into three regions:

    Western Region

    • Vancouver
    • Seattle
    • San Francisco
    • Los Angeles

    Central Region

    • Guadalajara
    • Mexico City
    • Monterrey
    • Houston
    • Dallas
    • Kansas City

    Eastern Region

    • Atlanta
    • Miami
    • Toronto
    • Boston
    • Philadelphia
    • New York/New Jersey

    Training complexes and facilities

The training complexes in the cities are all of high quality. The majority of these facilities already exist or are under development. A small number of training complexes must be renovated and the artificial grass must also be replaced by natural grass. United 2026 has found more than 150 sports accommodations and facilities prepared for the football tournament, including those of the Major League Soccer and Liga MX.

The facilities for teams and referees meet FIFA requirements. This means that the quality is high, but the travel times from the city to airports, stadiums and training complexes are also acceptable. United 2026 has selected 150 top quality facilities.

Each game city has very good infrastructure, hotels, medical care, technology companies. As a result, the minimum requirements of FIFA are well exceeded and a high-quality World Cup football is guaranteed.

Transport and travel to and from the host cities

Because the 2026 World Cup will be played in 3 countries, good transport across national borders is important. The national governments have promised that transport across borders will run smoothly. For this, the transport in the context of the World Championship will use special documents.

The host cities all have one or more international airports, so that football fans from all over the world can easily travel to the cities.

Travel between the host cities will mainly be by plane, as the cities are very far apart. The exception to this are the cities on the east coast of the US, where transport by road and train is also realistic.

Transport and travel in and around the host cities is sufficiently guaranteed in most cities. The infrastructure has enough capacity to handle the large crowds during a football match. Some cities need to expand their infrastructure for the 2026 World Cup.

Temperature and Climate in the Host Cities

The 2026 World Cup will take place in sixteen cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Although the tournament is held in the middle of summer, weather conditions vary widely: from cool mornings along the Pacific coast to hot and humid afternoons in the southern regions.

Understanding these climate patterns helps football fans choose their destination and pack appropriately for a comfortable match day. The values below reflect long-term average climate data for June and July.

    • Atlanta: afternoon temperatures usually range between 31–32°C, with high humidity that makes it feel even warmer. Short, intense thunderstorms are common. Light and breathable clothing is essential.
    • Boston: early-summer temperatures typically fall between 24–28°C. Humidity is moderate, and evenings can be cool. Occasional showers occur, so a light jacket is useful.
    • Dallas: expect hot days with highs between 31–33°C. Sun exposure is strong, and some days can get even hotter. Bring sun protection and schedule indoor breaks around midday.
    • Houston: temperatures generally reach 31–33°C combined with very high humidity. Afternoon showers are frequent. Pace your outdoor activities and stay hydrated.
    • Kansas City: highs often sit around 28–30°C. Humidity is moderate, and thunderstorms may develop occasionally. A lightweight rain jacket can be helpful.
    • Los Angeles: summers are pleasant, with temperatures between 24–28°C. Evenings cool down noticeably, especially near the coast. For evening matches, an extra layer is recommended.
    • Miami: expect hot, humid days with highs around 31°C. Afternoon showers or thunderstorms are common. The ocean is warm, but humidity remains high throughout the day.
    • New York & New Jersey: average temperatures in June and July usually range from 27–29°C, with moderate humidity. Evenings are comfortable. Thunderstorms can develop quickly.
    • Philadelphia: afternoon temperatures typically fall between 29–31°C, with moderate to high humidity. Rain is possible but not daily. Comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen are recommended.
    • San Francisco Bay Area: summer highs usually range from 18–22°C, while evenings can cool down significantly. Morning fog is common. Bring layers, as temperatures vary across neighborhoods.
    • Seattle: one of the most comfortable host cities in summer, with highs around 21–24°C and low humidity. Light rain is possible, though summers are generally dry.
    • Toronto: in June and July, temperatures typically range between 24–27°C. Humidity is moderate, and evenings may cool down. Short rain showers can occur.
    • Vancouver: mild conditions with highs between 19–22°C. The relatively low humidity makes it a comfortable destination. Expect cool evenings and occasional light rain.
    • Guadalajara: temperatures usually range from 28–29°C. June and July fall within the rainy season, so afternoon showers are common. Mornings are generally pleasant.
    • Mexico City: because of its elevation, summer highs generally reach around 21–22°C. Afternoon showers are frequent. Bring extra layers for cooler evenings.
    • Monterrey: typical summer temperatures are around 28–29°C, though strong sun can make it feel hotter. Rain is less frequent but still possible. Stay hydrated and seek shade on match days.

    Temperature: 28 degrees

Whether you speak Spanish, English, Portuguese, or Creole, in Miami, everyone shares a common love for football and celebrates its premier event: the FIFA World Cup.

Football in Miami has a rich history at every level: from amateur to semi-professional and a history of professional football organizations that have participated in nearly every major professional league since the beginning of organized professional football in the United States.

Professional football in Miami started with the North American Soccer League's Miami Gatos in the late 1960s and early 1970s, followed by the Miami Toros in the mid-1970s and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1998, Major League Soccer (MLS) created the Miami Fusion, but the team dissolved in 2002. Today, Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, represents the city in MLS.

    Monterrey

    Monterrey

    Population: 4.106.054
    Altitude: 35 meters
    Temperature: 33 degrees

Football is an integral part of Monterrey’s culture, home to two of Mexico's most prominent teams and fan bases. In 1945, Monterrey’s first professional football team, C.F. Monterrey, was established.

The 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, combined with C.F. Monterrey’s improved performance, turned football into a social phenomenon by 1973. In 1974, Tigres UANL earned a spot in the first division, creating a strong rivalry that has led to sold-out stadiums season after season.

The metropolitan area of Monterrey also includes the historic city of Guadalupe, first settled in 1716. Between 1880 and 1910, Monterrey developed from a regional commercial hub into the industrial capital of Mexico. Today, Monterrey is a bustling working hub with growing social diversity, where sports serve as a key social activity, uniting people regardless of income, social class, gender, or background.
