Why is the final played in New York/New Jersey?
The Football World Cup will be played in 16 beautiful host cities, all of which are fully committed to organizing the football tournament in 2026.
New York / New Jersey has been chosen as the host city of the final based on several factors and analyses. This choice was not against the other cities, but in favor of New York/New Jersey.

A Super Bowl–style halftime show during the World Cup Final
For the first time in history, the World Cup Final — to be played on July 19 at the New York/New Jersey Stadium — will feature an official halftime show. The show will resemble the well-known Super Bowl tradition in the NFL.
FIFA has appointed Coldplay to assist in producing the show and selecting the artists. The halftime show is inspired by the spectacular performances seen during the Super Bowl, featuring music, entertainment and large-scale production.
At the same time, the event poses logistical challenges: a standard football halftime lasts only 15 minutes, raising the question of whether setup, performance and breakdown can fit within that timeframe — or whether the break will need to be extended. Nevertheless, the initiative represents a new, ambitious blend of sport and entertainment at the 2026 World Cup.
Alongside this special halftime show, FIFA will maintain the traditional closing ceremony, bringing together sport and entertainment to conclude what is expected to be the most attended and most watched World Cup in history.
